Meet Daniel 'Danny' Bergara, the man who has been overlooked by many but taken into the hearts of a few.

The story of an Uruguayan, who tried to break barriers in English football.
Born in July 24 in 1942, Bergara grew up in Montevideo as a promising young footballer. He would go on to debut in professional football for Racing Montevideo, before moving to Spain.

In Spain, Bergara played for Mallorca, Tenerife and Sevilla.
After his playing days had concluded 1972, Begara decided to settle down in England with his English wife Janet, a travel guide who he had met in Mallorca.

In England, Bergara started his managerial career.
He was already warned by his former manager at Sevilla - Vic Buckingham - that English football is prejudiced when it comes to foreign managers.

Finding a job is about who you know, not managerial skill.
Bergara would experience this as several of his stints were cut short for several reasons that had nothing to do with football.

Luckily his breakthrough came in 1989 when he took over at 4th division side Stockport County.
In his 6-year spell in charge, Bergara revolutionized a football club. In his third season Stockport promoted to the 3rd division and came ever so close to the Championship in the next few years.

In 1995 Bergara and Stockport parted ways due to conflict off the pitch.
Bergara had won his place in the hearts of the fans, though. He created an exciting project for them to cherish.

After this successful period, you would think that Bergara was an in-demand manager but the prejudice of the English game did him no favours, once again.
In 2000, when Bergara was unemployed, spending his days in his Sheffield residence, the CEO of the managers association John Barnwell said the following:

"Danny has devoted his life to the game, but the game hasn't looked after him very well."
In 2007, a day after his 65th birthday, Bergara died from a stroke.

And emotional reaction from the Stockport Country fanbase followed. He had made them dream and they made him feel loved.

In 2012, Stockport named their main stand after Danny Bergara.❤️
