Some brief comments on the Depp verdict.
1/ People entangled in dysfunctional, emotionally complex, reciprocally abusive, recriminatory and/or violent relationships will bring those dynamics to every available context or arena, and that includes a court of law.

> The evidence & testimony presented was tantamount to yet more abuse. The trial itself was an act of abuse. I really don't know what the legal situation is here or how it could have been prevented but morally & ethically it should never have been allowed to proceed.
2/ I am aghast that anyone can look at any reports from this case & pick a side to cheer for or cheer against. It was a degrading, repugnant circus, not a battle of good vs evil with a hero & a villain.
This whole trial has been really damaging for male victim/survivors of DV, really damaging for female victims/survivors. Literally nothing good has come of it. If we can learn one lesson from it I hope it is that we shouldn't be in too much of a rush to judge, or to label.
That is *especially* true of tabloid newspapers sticking their prurient noses into vulnerable, damaged and yes, dangerous people & denouncing someone as a 'wife-beater' when they are wrapped up in a relationship as complex & volatile as this one.
