I’m glad Prince William has recovered but I feel uneasy about the palace not revealing he had coronavirus. Not because it’s a private health matter (even though he’s 2nd in line to throne), but for the exact reason they reportedly didn’t reveal it: they didn’t want to cause alarm
William apparently had breathing difficulties despite being fit and healthy and in his 30s. At the time in April there was huge focus on elderly/vulnerable but it was also known that it could affect younger people. Yet this second part wasn’t hammered home enough, and I think
added to the perception that younger people didn’t need to worry. William’s case shows that, whilst the odds are in favour of a good recovery, it can affect anyone of any age. I heard a very powerful testimony by the widow of a man in his 30s on Radio 5 Live last week. She said
he had been healthy. It is not about being alarmist but about being sensible and cautious. The public can cope with bad news, and I think it was a mistake for Kensington Palace not to reveal his condition.
