For Brits unfamiliar with how the ballot works in the US:
Candidates are trying to win states, which offer a certain number of ‘electoral votes’. The more they win - the closer to the White House they get.
States have different numbers of votes and some are more valuable (Cali) than others (North Dakota).
Some states won’t change hands - some will (swing states). That’s where the energy is focussed. Places like Florida and Pennsylvania will essentially decide the winner.

People have been voting for weeks but the *actual* Election Day is tomorrow.
Because of the huge influx of mail-in ballots this year, and the varying state rules, we may not know the result for days as some places can’t count those votes until after Election Day.

Trump is expected to declare he has won very early on on Wednesday morning - even if he hasn’t. That declaration isn’t binding and doesn’t mean anything. The winner is declared by the electoral college - who dish out the state votes.
He is already challenging the legitimacy of the election and has admitted he is sending in his lawyers pretty much as voting ends on Tuesday.
Biden is looking to hold firm and rely on his campaign to do the talking but does have lawyers on standby.

Polls have Biden way out in front but as always, the real poll is the election. Trump was buoyed by silent voters and a low turnout last time - but signs are turnout will be huge - which typically favours challengers.

Just as a last point - and just like over here - there is a magic number the candidates are looking for - 270.
Get 270 electoral college votes - you’re the President.
If it’s a draw - 269 each - the court steps in. And that’s where it gets MESSY.
