THREAD:

In 1896, 28 armed Armenians carried out the Occupation of the Ottoman Bank.

Their goal was to raise awareness & action by the major European powers after the Hamidian Massacres which left +200K dead.
Reading this in the 21st century, my first thoughts were: "Well that seems extreme. I'm sure this could have been resolved in some diplomatic way."

They were carrying out this operation so they could make sure another massacre did not occur with the world turning a blind eye.
Well, we know that did not do enough.

April 24, 1915 marked the start of the Armenian Genocide & the massacre of 1.5 Million Armenians.

Today, we are seeing the beginning of a modern day genocide. Azerbaijan & Turkey want to rid Armenians, and they're starting from Artsakh.
So we Armenians and allies are trying to do our best to avoid us being wiped out.

Our constant tweets, our protests blocking streets & freeways, our hunger strikes, our chants at SpaceX, our boycotting of Nutella, our PR pressure on American companies, etc.
We all are doing our small part to bring attention so the world doesn't sit idly while we lose our lands which will ultimately lead to the destruction of our people.

So excuse the inconvenience, we're trying to stop another Genocide. #StopAliyev #SanctionTurkey #RecognizeArtsakh
