As a midwife , the AFAB/AMAB really pisses me off. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN. On a Government issued form I am required to note the sex I observe . No one walks around with a wand randomly assigning a Sex to babies.
In the case of ambiguous genitalia , not that I’ve seen it in 16 years of practice, a paed referral is made for karotyping and appropriate counselling and consultation.
And due to the rise in NIPT ( Non invasive prenatal testing) the Sex of the baby of often known from ten weeks gestation.
Historically, some babies with ambiguous genitalia were inappropriately medically managed . This doesn’t happen , at least in first world countries where all the gender woo is emanating from , any longer.
