So let me get this straight: In New Zealand, people just had two weeks to vote without more than five minutes' queues (and could enrol to vote on the day, and vote without ID or facing many other forms of voter suppression. (1/4)
They elected a proportionally representative Parliament - a Parliament containing quite possibly the most queer people in any legislature.

Now, today, the woman whose party received landslide support after successfully achieving Covid-19 elimination 2x formed a government. (2/4)
Her Cabinet contains more Māori people than ever before. Her deputy prime minister is gay. She's an unmarried mum. She's pledged electoral reform to make our system more democratic.

And yet folks from a country where people queue for 10+ hours to vote call her fascist? (3/4)
It'd be laughable, if the threat of the US election being stolen through voter suppression, gerrymandering, & outright violence wasn't so real.

People who support a man who's betting re-election on stopping people's votes being counted are calling @jacindaardern fascist. (4/4)
Also - just to be clear: our democracy is not perfect. We don't have many forms of voter suppression, but voter suppression still exists here - especially for tangata whenua, Pasifika, people with disabilities, & migrant folks. We are far from upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
