"Where will they service it?"
Don't just think juu juu, follow through with that thought and think about what exactly is "serviced" in an electric car https://twitter.com/SaruniBM/status/1323002632189988867

An electric car doesn't have an internal combustion engine
Therefore:
- No Spark Plugs
- No Engine oil
- No Radiator Coolant
- No Air Filter
- No Oil Filter
You will have to replace consumables so things like
- Tyres
- Brake pads
- Windshield wipers
Which we have in Kenya

Where will you charge an electric car in Kenya?
It will charge at home using domestic power, it will take a lot longer than the superchargers in other countries (Up to 11 hours) but you only charge it 2 to 4 times a month depending on how far you drive each day

A full charge on an electric car is not like a full charge on your phone, it's more analogous to a full tank of fuel.
So whereas you charge your phone every day, depending on how much you drive & the car's range on a full "tank" you might only need to charge the car once a week

Like Rob does https://twitter.com/CBBT_TV/status/1138065808238809090
Now it's important to note that Electric cars are not immune to failure, Teslas more than most BTW and it can be very difficult to get parts for the electric motors or get assistance with software issues even in the countries that have official support https://www.driving.co.uk/news/american-survey-claims-tesla-build-quality-issues/
Lakini Electric cars are coming.
In my opinion it will be commercial vehicles first, because hapo costs are everything and Kenyans love"Kama Yake"
If your competitor's fleet is saving money by using electricity instead of fuel and saving money on service, utachukua kama yake

There are already some viable commercial vehicles available, from small electric TukTuks to eCanters
Solar Panels on the roof of your Godown charging your delivery vehicles so you never pay for fuel is not ati completely out of the question. That's not unimaginable in Kenya

1. Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter Electric Truck (Built in Collaboration with Daimler wa Mercedes) https://media.daimler.com/marsMediaSite/en/instance/ko/eCanter.xhtml?oid=30010459
2. Mahindra Electric TukTuks https://twitter.com/anandmahindra/status/1321762736821297155
At the moment, the lack of a charging infrastructure in Kenya completely rules out practical long distance travel, Private or Commercial, so we are limited to City Driving/Local deliveries only for now
Right now the import duty for an electric car is lower than "Normal" cars https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/bd/markets/market-news/treasury-halves-levy-on-electric-vehicles-to-10pc-2254246
We have started assembling more and more vehicles in Kenya, we might want to skip ahead and leapfrog to Electric https://mondaynote.com/evs-the-manufacturing-revolution-40a7f246696
You don't fill your fuel tank every day so you don't charge the car every day either.
You'll be fine driving your electric car with the car at half or a quarter for your daily rounds. https://twitter.com/Mwirigi/status/1323139850296565760

Plus, there's a thing electric cars have called regenerative braking, it will actually charge the car a bit when you hit the brakes, so your car will actually charge itself a little in slow moving start-stop traffic (something we have a lot of in Nairobi)
In Summary, tuma M-Pesa I do a video on this :-) https://useshukran.com/cr/mwirigi
