In dense Behratoli area of Ranchi, Rashid Ansari, a mason, and his wife Salma Khatun have come to know that the “charity money from Saudi Arabia”, of Rs 10,700 each was part of a statewide scam. 2/n
In the same locality, another beneficiary of Rs 5,700 “from Saudi”, 21-year-old Sarjun Khatoon, has been shown as a Class 9 student of Adarsh High School in McCluskieganj. She passed out of class 10th in 2015, but NSP shows her a beneficiary studying till 2019. Listen: 3/n
Records show Rohit Kujjur, a Class 10 student, received Rs 10,700 in his Jharkhand State Cooperative Bank account.“I had given my fingerprints, Aadhaar details but I didn’t know an account had been created in my name. I didn’t get any money. There is no hostel in the school." 4/n
Aasmin Khatun, 17, received Rs 5,700 on May 11.“We haven’t got any passbook. We were allotted Rs 2,500 by the school but they said it has been adjusted in the fees...The money would have been of help, especially after the lockdown,” said Ajij Ansari, the father, a farmer. 5/n
Madrasa Alia Arabia: Records show among 102 beneficiaries is Sana Parween, a Class 8 student. But Parween is Class 10 student at St Anne’s Girls School. “In 2018, I was told about a scholarship...and in 2019, when the money came, the middlemen told us to give half." 6/n
Indira Gandhi Memorial School, Nawagarh, Dhanbad: Records show scholarships were sanctioned for 324 students — all except one received Rs 10,700 each for “hostel” students.The three-room school has no hostel. Ram Dubey, director said he did not apply'This is a big fraud'. 7/n
Hasan Ali’s account number in PFMS for direct transfers lists him as a beneficiary of Rs 10,700 for hostelers. Ali, a 25-year-old father of a child, said he was contacted by a middleman who told him to give Aadhaar details to avail “charity money from the Saudi government”. 8/n
