Everyone's worried about Pennsylvania. So I want to tell you what I saw - and what I didn't - one day in late August when our oldest two kids and I saddled up a Mustang GT convertible for a 575-mile daytrip, including more than 300 in PA.

Here's our Keystone State route.

We crossed from NJ into PA on Commodore Barry Br, drove past Philly and about halfway across the commonwealth, then down to Chambersburg, a borough of 20k ppl just north of Mason/Dixon line where my Mom's parents are buried. After cemetery visit, we drove the streets for...

a good long while. Trump won some parts of Chambersburg with 81% in 2016. Some parts he won with 'only' 65%. FWIW the football field at the high school where my Mom had her first teaching job is sponsored by Chik-fil-a.

So do you want to guess how many Trump signs we saw?

3/9
One. We saw one Trump sign on a house. The kind you buy, not the kind campaigns put up. We saw signs for the incumbent Republican House Member & signs for his Dem challenger. Each had signs for other R/Ds around them. But never Trump (or Biden).

Put differently...

4/9
Put differently - end of summer, key Trump territory. And zero evidence of the Trump campaign on the ground.

And there's more. We must've passed 50, maybe 75 Pennsylvania farms along the highways. How many had Trump signs? One. Homemade.

Stickers on cars? Back on NJT...

5/9
Back on the NJ Turnpike, we saw trucks with Trump stickers. In 300+ miles in Pennsylvania, not a single truck or car with one. Saw one kid with a Bernie sticker, looked like he was headed to college.

We saw signs like this, but no Trump signs in strong Trump territory

So what's it mean? It means nothing, because anecdotes aren't data.

But I was surprised I didn't see ANY evidence of a Trump groundgame in Central PA. Basically zilch.

Maybe it's changed since then. Maybe his support is strong but quiet in PA - though...

7/9
... though his supporters are not quiet in other places.

I don't know. But it's possible - possible - Team T didn't do their work.

A dad & two pre-teens visiting cemeteries in a Mustang convertible sounds like bad fiction, not political science. But... that's what I saw.
