Folks, I've had a nice lift--thanks for the motivation, haters!--and I'd like to return to this. It's a worry about a nationalist racial fantasy and that's the thing about a fantasy: you can't actually have it! But that's all obvious and not really particularly interesting as an add on. What I'd like to talk about is the first bit, the "gender studies" scare-quoting.
You'll notice if you click through to the initial tweet that I'm far from the only person who noticed this rhetoric has a deep link to white eugenic fantasy. My friend @KevinMKruse more or less calls him Lothrop Stoddard, for example.
But you'll notice that JD only quote tweets one person, only attacks notes the departmental affiliation of one person, and only calls one person an intellectual "mediocrity." So you'll have to forgive me for asking, why? What's special about this one person and his affiliation?
It's pretty simple. Even listing the words "gender studies" in your bio creates this blinding reactionary vitriol. They're emotionally tortured by the idea that a "gender studies" prof is telling them anything, let alone that they should read up on history of fertility fantasies.
Of course, it is also practical. Dunking on Kevin won't rile JD's followers like a "gender studies" prof. That's red meat! So his "dunk" on me--the pathetically unoriginal quotation of my listed title and unsupported claim I'm mediocre--will unleash thousands of likes and RTs.
It will involve thousands of people shouting about how stupid I am, or how I worship Baal, or how I'm not a real man, or whatever. And the thing you have to understand is that these people aren't responding to anything--not a single thing--besides the words "gender studies."
I tell you folks, this is why JD and James Lindsay and Rod Dreher and every other hilarious self-parody of vigorous masculinity shivers and is sick to their stomach about gender studies. They haven't the slightest clue about what it is or what we do. But they are TERRIFIED of us.
And I love it. Give me more JD, you sad sack. You could be rolling in your Hollywood cash or playing with your kids or whatever and instead you're fretting about me. And with all of your 90K followers you *still* couldn't even ratio my tweet. I'm the mediocrity? LOL
Meanwhile, like I said, I had a great lift. Nothing mediocre about it all. Blasted my Baal worship music and was just an absolute beast.
