I definitely identify with that as an anxious person. When I watch or read horror, I'm able to feel a resolution and closure to a stressful situation that I am usually robbed of in my real life with anxiety. Anxiety always keeps you on edge...
But with a horror story you get to feel a full range of tricky emotions AND get closure. It's so satisfying and comforting. Not to say I don't appreciate ambiguous endings...those are interesting and fun too.
I think horror has seen an uptick in popularity the past few years because our collective anxiety is off the charts. Horror is the medicine
