Actually I do have one more point to make so sorry to those of you who don't care about this!!

So a lot of people are saying "so hunting evil ghosts and zombies = law enforcement now??" which ignores a huge arc of the series.

There was a really good thread I read about Xue Yang and his rant that I shared a while back, but I didn't fully understand it until later.
We all know what Xue Yang did was wrong. He condemned an entire sect for the wrongdoings of one man that personally mistreated him. He became judge, jury, and executioner.

This is likely an allusion to how the sects dealt with the Wens post war.
The sects were quick to condemn Xue Yang and his methods even though they sat by and protected a man doing literally the EXACT SAME THING. Nie Mingjue was ready to kill Xue Yang on sight for his crime but was quick to condemn the non-cultivators and Wen children (re: innocents)
for the crimes of Wen Ruohan and his army.

The sects didn't like it when a rogue cultivator took "justice" into their own hands (like Xue Yang...like Wei Wuxian.) Yet they're free to commit their own crimes and protect their own for what they consider "justice."
So tldr: reinforcing my point that the argument was never cultivation = law enforcement but rather that in mdzs, the major sects have similarities to law enforcement with the Wens as a whole group and with individual humans committing crimes + how they are hypocritical about it.
