@bita137 "Make sure you are doing your homework and request contact information of previous students that moved on"
@bita137 : This is not a failure to leave a lab that is not a good fit to you, even after 1 year
@PhDeez : Choosing the programme is as important as choosing the PI, you need to ensure that the environment is supportive as well
@PhDeez : If this is not working well with your PI, you can break up with them, this is not a lifelong relationship. Live long and prosper!
@bita137 : If your PI create a toxic environment and everyone in that lab suffer, combine your forces. If it is only 1 or 2 people, think about how you have communicated with your PI and if something different could have been done
@PhDeez : If you are in a toxic environment, take note of everything and ask other people to confirm what you have experience so you can stand up for yourself
@bita137 : Advice to PI mentoring Black trainees, my advice is for the trainees to help them, let them know what are your needs. To the PI that already has had the experience, provides advice to your colleagues.
A last advice for trainees:
@bita137 : People are different, PI have different style, take the time to find a PI that can get you the environment that you need.
@PhDeez : Get to know your PI, learn what they expect of you and let them know what you expect. It's a two-way street.
