So I was thinking earlier about how differently people who left evangelicalism look at the Right versus how the average person or republican thinks of right wing politics. I was thinking about how there’s a whole element of “what they say versus what they really mean”. (1/4)
For example the religious right says “climate change isn’t real” but what they really mean is “we don’t care if it is real because we WANT the world to be destroyed because Jesus will come back”. (2/4)
Or they say socialized medicine is expensive, won’t work, will raise taxes but what they really mean is “we believe the government will implant tracking devices which could be the mark of the beast”. (3/4)
These types of Evangelical Doublespeak are recognizable to those who have left that sect of the church and they play a damaging role in politics. I’m interested in hearing other examples of this from those who grew up in evangelical or fundamentalist circles. (4/4)
