The difference between a producer, composer and a lyricist - a thread.
Before I start this, I just want to say that I’m going to generally explain this, so people can have a idea on what the difference is. There’s already a really good thread which breaks down a song creation in way more detail. (I will link the thread at the end.)
- Producer
The producer is basically the one who creates the instrumental and arranges the song in order to create what the artist desires. Any person who is able to produce viable music is a music producer. (Viable music is quality music people want to listen to and share.)
The producer oversees all aspects of the creation of a song. These may include choice of song, choice of musicians, instruments and vocalist(s) and how those instruments are played and those notes sung as well as where the song or album is recorded.
Like a director is to a film, the music producer is to a song. Dead leaves is an example. (Yoongi produced it.)
- Composer
The composer is the one who makes the melodies, basically. The composers are also usually written down as a lyricist, but that doesn’t always mean that they’ve written the final words to the song.
This video of a rough version of Seesaw perfectly demonstrates what composing is. The lyrics don’t make sense because the melody is the focus point here. This is a guide for the song. (Also, look in the thread at the end for more detail if you want.)
Simply put, a composer will create and write the original melody and harmony of a piece of music and then will take the composition and work through the melody. (Keep in mind that although they are credited, they may have not written the final lyrics.)
** Now one of the main differences between producers and composers is that composers are responsible for creating music. Producers are responsible for taking that music and incorporating it into visual media while also making sure it sounds as good as possible.
- Lyricist
This is simply someone who has written the lyrics (words) to a song.
** The difference between a lyricist and a composer is that a composer writes the song's music which may include but not limited to the melody, harmony, arrangement and accompaniment.

The lyricist only writes the words.
*** If you want to check if someone is a producer for a song, check on Wikipedia (they get the information from Naver). They are more accurate than KOMCA as this only lists writing and composing credits.
I hope I explained it well enough. If you think I might have gotten something wrong, please let me know. 💜

- Songwriter
*** Also, it’s worth mentioning that a songwriter is a musician who professionally composes musical compositions and writes lyrics for songs.
- this means they can be considered both as a composer and a lyricist
