<Ne Explained> (THREAD):

**note: these are my observations and experiences, if you relate that's great - if not, reply with what you think Ne looks like to you~
I believe the best way to describe Ne (especially to someone who isn't necessarily conscious of the function but wants to know what the hype is about) is to see what it is not. And what better way to do that by contrasting it to Se.
First of all, Ne and Se are both *Extroverted*, which in Jungian terms the jargon is "objective" which further translates as externalized and regarding the literal *object* in question.

(ie, an apple, a tree, a house, a bird, water, fire etc are all *objects*)
From my understanding, one could look at these objects and describe it in the literal sense.

(ie, apple is red, tree is large, the house is made of stone, a bird has a pronounced tail plumage etc)
You could even add details

(ie, the apple's red hue is slightly faded, the tree's leaves have begun to discolour, the house houses a family of 4, the bird behaves in a circular fasion)
Now how does this contrast to Ne?
First, let's take those same examples and translate it into Ne:
- apple could be rotten
- tree might be dying
- house might not be a home
- bird could be sick
- water could be connected to a stream that connects to a dam etc, you get the point
One thing to really notice here, isn't the "could" or the "what ifs" of these statements, but rather - how the statements are basically no longer talking about the object anymore - but what's *around the object - in the intangible sense.
No one knows if the apple is rotten, no one's cut it open yet. No one knows if the house is not a home for the family, is there even a dam?
Ne makes sporadic connections using the object as a "launching pad" for ideas. The object is merely the start of what isn't the end. For me, whenever I describe any object, I find myself mentally moving *farther* away from the object as I connect the ideas from one to another.
Another example is getting lost in wikipedia articles. You *can literally start at Constantinople and end at butter just by clicking the links. (refer to pic for the motion of Ne)
This isn't to say that Ne is anything higher or deeper than Se btw. Both have an advantage and disadvantage depending on context and circumstance.
Ne (imo) is highly useful in brainstorming sessions, debates and writing (to name a few) where making rapid connections and expanding concepts is required.

Another thing I thought of are mind maps and web diagrams are a nice way to see how Ne makes connections.
To add nuance, Ne has the risk of being "too much" and experience choice-paralysis because while it's fast, it can be *too fast and an individual could be bombarded with too many choices at once and find themselves incapable of making a decision.
Contrast that with Se who is also very fast and can make a lot of quick decisions, but Se's concern is if the idea is useful in the real world. If they can't use it, then "why did we have to think it?"

"There's other things that I could put my energy into."
Another issue is since Ne can generate ideas a lot, those ideas are not always good. A lot of Ne folks I know report of imagining fears and cause anxious thoughts. Some even avoid certain places or movies because it'll trigger a snowball effect of negative thoughts.
Especially for Ne doms and Ne inferiors, these two kinds of folks can experience either too much or being overstimulated mentally.
Hopefully this explains a bit about Ne in that it's more digestible for the folks. If you think it needs more, don't hesitate to add more. (Especially fellow Ne ppl, y'all are hungry for more)
