When choosing a living space, pick the room where light shines from two sides of the room.

A simple heuristic that rarely fails.
I first learned this idea from Christopher Alexander.

Light that comes from multiple directions feels more natural, which gives a space life.

If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, at least one of those windows should face South so you can maximize sunlight.
Some design choices for a home I'll own someday:

1) The bedroom windows will face east so I can wake up with the warmth of sun rays.

2) The living room will face south so we have natural light throughout the day.

3) The patio will face west so we can watch the sunset outside.
The principles above align with the pillars of Vastu architecture, which originated in India.
