#OpenEnrollment is here! This year it's more important than ever to get the word out and make sure everyone who needs coverage has the change to enroll in quality health insurance that covers essential services and pre-existing conditions - say, having had #COVID19 (THREAD)
First up: most people have until Decembet 155h to enroll, but if you're in MN (12/22), CO, PA, NV, WA (1/15), MA, RI (1/23), CA, DC, NJ, NY (1/31) you have a little more time. In most cases, you should apply by 12/15 to make sure your coverage kicks in by 1/1. #GetCovered
What are Marketplace plans, anywhere? They're private coverage offered by insurance companies, that must meet certain standards - like pre-ex protections and coverage for essential benefits like hospitalization and maternity care. #GetCovered https://www.healthsherpa.com/blog/how-to-apply-for-marketplace-health-insurance/
Critically, they're eligible for federal (and sometimes state) subsidies that can bring down premiums + out of pocket costs. 9 in 10 people qualify for assistance and most of the 1.2M people we enrolled @healthsherpas last year paid <$50/month #GetCovered https://www.healthsherpa.com/blog/open-enrollment-2020-in-review/
It takes less than 5 minutes to check if you're eligible for assistance, so it's always worth a shot! Sometimes states introduce extra savings, like California did last year. And if you had ACA coverage last year, don't forget to re-shop! #GetCovered
Ready to start? Visit http://HC.gov or http://HealthSherpa.com to make sure you're ONLY seeing ACA plans, and seeing all plans - not just those that pay a commission. Don't just google- folks who sell junk plans buy up ad space for keywords like "Obamacare." #GetCovered
There's no longer a federal fine for having health insurance (in fact, that's why the ACA is currently in court!) But if you're in CA, DC, MA, NJ, or RI, you may still have a state requirement to be covered or pay a fine - so plan accordingly! #GetCovered
