i didn’t comment on this tweet when it first made the rounds because it’s clear that OP is having trouble distinguishing public performance from personal reality, and honestly, i can’t blame them. still, while there’s a grain of truth here, this take is a bit naive.
between this and the silly, unnecessary nontroversy over AOC’s Vanity Fair cover, i see so many parallels in these outraged critiques and feel compelled to spell a few things out:
1. Sex Worker Twitter and its civilian kid sister, Dating Coach Capitalist Twitter is *extremely* performative. stunting is an inextricable part of the job, but it’s not an identity or a personality. don’t get it twisted.
2. applying sex workers’ standards and expectations for mutually-beneficial relationships to a civilian framework will never work unless you’re ready and willing to examine, unpack, and dismantle your own misogyny. until then, there’s nothing to see here. move on.
3. putting WOC on blast for surviving within a system designed to subjugate us is not the righteous woke take or the eye-opening “gotcha” you think it is—especially when there are literally so many other systemic injustices you could be directing your energy towards instead.
just admit these women hurt your feelings and go. no need to cloak your personal hatred of gOLd-DiGgERs as deep intellectual analysis. 😎
