Against this impoverished Franciscan universality, we must think & politicize the constitutive enigma of mediation as necessary macro-scale interdependence. This genuinely universal riddle of maintenance or care points to a shared capacity or surplus, not lack or alienation. 3/5

We cannot build a Green New Deal on lack—on the Franciscans’ “highest poverty.” More important, we are *not* all the same—& certainly not in some imagined common dispossession. 4/5
