I have many friends and lots of family who are voting differently than I am this year. They will be friends and family even after the vote—and not in some diminished way, but same way as before. With the election two days away, let's not lose sight that this is how it should be.
Nailed it. I was trying to find a “clever” way to communicate biographical details about myself and this Twitter user saw through it. https://twitter.com/bitspitter/status/1322908839037956096
“Everyone with different politics than mine is delusional or evil or not worthy of being in a relationship with” is pathological. Good luck trying to build a life that way.
Best thing I can say about this is I suppose it *would* be hard to take my advice here if you thought everyone who voted for Trump is a Nazi.
honestly got destroyed a bit here
Changing hearts and minds, folks! https://twitter.com/jrloom/status/1322929644656578564?s=20
So, an interesting thing is happening in the replies. People are describing Trump's actions and policies, and the implications of those actions and policies, in the starkest possible terms. These are descriptions that I would largely co-sign.

That's when the fallacy happens.
People then take those descriptions and import them, without adjustment or modification, into the minds of Trump voters as political beliefs.

This is an error of political psychology.
So, something like "I care about border security and keeping illegals out, but also think Trump went too far" (which is something a Trump voter I know said) is replaced by "I cheer as Trump's murderous agents sink pellets into the flesh of little children as they enter our doors"
But of course if it's the *former* that comes closer to their beliefs, *that's* the more relevant input for determining capacity for ongoing friendship. There is a limit to this, of course. And some people draw that line less permissively than I have.
But the people I'm talking about aren't cheering on the separation of kids from their parents. At best they're seeing that as bad overreach in pursuit of an important goal which is stopping illegal immigration.
Ultimately, I have difficulty relating to their mindset. Trump's comprehensive unfitness is clear to me. I don't understand why people don't have different beliefs—as I say below. But if you are my family or friend I will not drop you over this election. https://twitter.com/bernybelvedere/status/1320165365528334337?s=20
