THREAD: Remote/hybrid learning is far more challenging than in-person learning for the majority of teachers and students. To move forward, we need to identify the unique ways this moment can help us refine and strengthen skills that weren’t as vital in-person. Here are a few. 1/5
Self-Regulation: To succeed at a distance, students will inevitably do a large % of their work asynchronously. This requires strong self-regulation skills. Now is the time to explicitly teach kids how to goal set and manage time effectively. 2/5
Limiting Live Lectures: For years we have known that live lectures are not all that engaging. That only gets worse remotely. Now is the time to rethink instructional delivery so kids are less reliant on a one-size-fits-all model to achieve mastery. 3/5
Leveraging Tech Effectively: Tech has always been a powerful tool, but only when it is used efficiently and effectively. Now is a great time to build out your LMS, create instructional videos to replace lectures and utilize tools that make it easier to deliver feedback. 4/5
Self-Paced Learning: Expecting kids to be on the same exact lesson everyday in-person was hard. But with all the factors inhibiting learning now, it can feel impossible. It is a perfect time to test out self-paced structures that ultimately lead to greater differentiation. 5/5
