More recently, my colleague @TheRealTamar and I wrote about the overwhelming whiteness of sheriffs, and how they are finding political homes inside of far right movements. Terry Johnson is openly racist and xenophobic. Like Joe Arpaio, he’s been taken to court because of racial profiling. It has accomplished nothing. He is one of NC’s longest-serving sheriffs.
I covered the Never Again action & it was fascinating to me when I later learned Terry Johnson’s men were in riot gear because he thought protestors were there to take down the confederate monument. They were there to show support to the immigrants Johnson is paid to detain.
The man is inordinately worried about his confederate monument. But anyway, here’s more context about Johnson, from the reporting I did with @TheRealTamar.
