Rant coming up. Apologies... the teacher bashing and #closetheschools has got to me...
Keeping schools open is the right thing to do but if heads like me are going to be able to keep staff and students as safe as possible then we need the funding to cover the additional costs.
Keeping schools open is the right thing to do but if heads like me are going to be able to keep staff and students as safe as possible then we need the funding to cover the additional costs.
They include (but are not limited to) additional cleaning costs, ppe costs (teachers and kids need masks), the costs of installing additional sinks and hand washing units, the costs of running 5 separate lunch and breaks, the supply staff costs to cover ill colleagues...
The costs of keeping a building warm when the regulations say you have to have all the windows open to ventilate the building, the costs of subsidising new items of uniform to keep kids warm in the winter (because the windows are open); the cost of flu jabs for staff... etc
We need regular testing in schools and an end to announcement/leaks by the media that only serve to stress out teachers and kids alike!
Oh...and not quietly removing the number of promised laptops for children isolating at the same time as refusing to cover the holiday cost of

School staff don’t want or need the empty platitudes expressed in last night’s announcement - we need the tools to do the jobs and keep our kids and staff safe and learning!
