Can imagine people are feeling a spectrum of emotions today, from stress to anxiety to worry, so I’m going to post a thread of services that might help depending on your home situation. It has never been more important to reach out and seek help if you need. Add to it if you like
The first is highlighting 12 step groups who have moved online in lockdown - they are fellowships and support groups for people with addiction issues from gambling to alcohol to narcotics - links of some here https://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk  https://www.gamblersanonymous.org.uk  https://ukna.org
Just as importantly if you have a loved one with addiction issues or you come from an alcoholic family, there is @NacoaUK or Al-Anon https://al-anon.org  or ACA (adult child of alcoholics) https://adultchildren.org  and addiction and mental health charity @WeAreWithYou
If you are finding this a tough time mentally, @samaritans offers a listening service @theCALMzone is a male suicide prevention charity and runs a helpline @MindCharity has a ton of resources online as well as other services
For younger people @TheMixUK offers support and a helpline for under 25s and @PAPYRUS_tweets helps with suicide prevention in children https://www.papyrus-uk.org  - @Place2Be also offers resources around mental health in children
For those who are trapped in domestic abuse situations, we are with you - you are not alone. @womensaid has an online chat and forum @SBSisters provide specific advice for Asian, African and Caribbean women, @RefugeCharity have a helpline - for men there is @ManKindInit
For people worrying about debt and money, or are feeling overwhelmed @StepChange might be a good place to start to get a sense of control over it. There is this feature about where to get help and free advice https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan/
I’ve highlighted this before but if you are in a position to help, a donation however small to @TrussellTrust will help as they do incredible work with food banks and will be feeling the strain this next few weeks.
In terms of grief, you need all the support you can get right now - it’s not the time to be alone and you do not walk this alone - the online grief community is with you. There is @WidowedAndYoung @GoodGriefProj @GriefUK @thegriefcast @goodgrieftrust
To end, I’m highlighting one of the most useful and valuable accounts I’ve found on Instagram and Facebook called Real Depression Project - they cover all mental illness not just depression http://m.facebook.com/RealDepression … and here’s a screenshot which I think is apt.
A feeling, even a bad feeling, is temporary. Hold onto that, remember that. It will pass. ❤️
(Lastly - for real this time) - Facebook neighbourhood groups have been a godsend during lockdown. Even if you don’t normally use it, it can be an incredible place to seek help, just have a moan, be inspired by the good deeds and know that you’re connected to your community.
