Apart from the casual racism, they betray an amateur understanding of history, and as already mentioned, fail to acknowledge the atrocities that the "Enlightened" perpetrated.

And apart from all that, no one deserves to be lumped into a collective "they", as a dog whistle for racists, because of recent terror attacks.

I would not be too surprised if there were two Islamic dudes back then, sitting around using "they" as some shitty dog whistle against the "uncivilized Christians", while failing to realize that they themselves had built off knowledge from all around the world.

Oh I should add that item 3 applies even if you belong to a culture that can't trace its contributions to the world to what a white man in power, such as Macron, may value.
