THREAD:

VOTE FOR BIDEN OR ELSE

1. Listening to the more detailed views on the US election a common theme has emerged.
2.
a) Trump wins by a conclusive margin & riots intensify,
b) Trump wins by the narrowest of margins & the results are contested. Riots intensify,
c) Biden wins by narrowest of margins & the results are contested. Riots intensify.
d) Biden wins by a conclusive margin. Riots stop.
3. Apart from the obvious democratic deficit in the above scenarios, it raises a really interesting conundrum about human behaviour & how US citizens will respond to the prospect of more violence.
4. Will some voters vote for Biden just to keep the peace?

Will some voters just not bother voting?

Will some vote for Trump as they value freedom to vote without coercion above a dislike they may hold for him?
5. The scenes in New York, Portland & the failed Chaz/Chop in Seattle where neighbourhoods resemble a post war zone. Do those scenes deter voters from supporting the Democrats who were sympathetic to the BLM/Antifa cause? Or do voters dread those riots coming to their town soon?
6. Then there's the economy. Will voters be drawn to the low tax policies of Trump & view that as the best way to grow out of a post Covid slump? Or with health at forefront will they be drawn to the promise of a healthcare system that provides for all, regardless of income?
7. It's such an interesting situation & similar in so many ways to the choices we in the UK faced last December. Corbyn's Marxist policies were firmly rejected & enticements of free stuff weren't appreciated by proud Brits who don't want 'owt for nowt'.
8. But it's different in the US with such limited, free at point of use healthcare & with Covid being at the forefront of everyone's minds.

On the other hand, low tax has always been a popular US policy.
9. Then there's the Biden tapes/photos that have hit the news in the past few days. It might persuade swing voters to stick with what they know best & plump for Trump. But maybe some voters find Trump so objectionable they'll stomach the Biden scandal?
10. I've no idea who will win, but I feel very uncomfortable at the thought of US citizens being bullied into voting for a candidate just to stop the rioting... for a time, until the mob are displeased about something else & they resume where they left off.
