Fellow writers,

I wrote a Horror spec in August. Since, I’ve scored top-tier management (news soon). Said spec is at 4 major studios. My manager is EP of the film. There’s an A-List director attached and I’m producing with future proof incentives. Wanna know how I did it?
1) started w Black List - scored some 6’s. The notes were nice. Didn’t do anything for me.

2) went to screenplay competitions, I placed in all and won a few obscure ones. Even got a trophy. Didn’t do anything for me.

3) submitted to management. Didn’t do anything for me.
4) said f*** it, went to my personal friendships w/studios. That did the most! They all took it on my logline. Also, it was a warm submission. I had something to talk about in how we were connected.

5) went back to managers and broke studio news. Their response was instant.
6) leveraged the studio interest and attached a director. In all communications I addressed myself as the producer and writer. IMPORTANT!

7) got signed. Disclosed my plan from studio A to studio Z. They loved the script - no scores, or placing mattered - I never brought it up.
8) in my talks I mentioned a larger plan to start a production company encompassing all my projects. Deal done. Value yourself and let it be known.

9) it’s worth mentioning that I’ve been writing for 15 years. I’m 38 and have felt out of luck for so many years!
10) yet during the trying years, I’ve made myself useful. I’ve edited overseas, graphic designed my own posters and worked in EVERY capacity on any film set I could... this proved to be the most important thing I could of done.

11) Things can happen very fast if you work away from your script. Please know that the despair you might be feeling is a key essential aspect to you figuring it out and surviving! I’ve written dozens of specs but one made it. In hindsight they weren’t failures but lessons...
Conclusion: EVERYTHING you’ve been through, all the no’s, the non replied quires, the “how am I gonna pay rent” days contribute to your character in this biz and overall makes you a better storyteller! Don’t stop. Trust me, ya got this! Go out and try to learn the business (more)
Sometimes we can get caught up in our pages, but there’s another side you need to be keen on - the biz. Learn more. Do more. I believe in you. I am a director, writer, producer, editor, cinematographer and a graphic designer - but above all I AM A STORYTELLER. And here I am ❤️
Thank you guys for reading my little rant. Felt like injecting a tiny bit of inspiration during these crazy times. Happy Halloween, be safe. If anyone wants to chat, my DM’s are always open. With all my love! ❤️🎥
Screw it, I’m also the producer haha so here’s the title and key artwork. I can share that much! I love Twitter. “Who says dying can’t be fun?”
Hey folks! I’m gonna add some more info to this thread and give some clearer insight to the statements above in a beat. Just wanted to say ALL OF YOU are amazing! Thx for the DM’s, likes and RT’s. Please continue to spread the inspiration. I’ll be responding to all of you soon ❤️
