Halloween thread:

be sure to add what you know.... I want to learn and be educated.

(I'm expecting something form my bro @ProdByToo_Saint)

1.) The name Halloween: Comes from the term All Hallows Eve.
All= Everything
Hallow= Holy/Sacred "Hallowed be thy name"
Eve= day before
Halloween LITERALLY means.... The Day BEFORE everything that's Holy.
[I was taught it was "ThE dEvILs bIrThDaY" smh]
2.) November 2nd is..... all my Hispanic friends should know this..... Dia De Los Muertos. (The Day of the Dead... have you seen Coco yet?)
3.) Nov 1st is.... hardly anyone knows this for some reason... but some Hispanic friends know this... Dia de Los Santos... All Saints Day.

See how it all lines up?

Oct 31st- Day before the Holy Day
Nov 1st- The Holy Day
Nov 2nd-The Dead Day
3.) Costumes- it's traditional for people the wear costumes but why? Most of the time the costumes are "scary" but why? It's believed that during this time the veil that separates the living and dead is thinnest. This is when the spirits "cross over" and walk amongst us looking
for a place to rest. When they see others who look like them... (us in Halloween costumes) they think... yes, this feels like home. Ill rest here, among the 'dead'. Im not trying to play or unknowingly invite spirits to play with me so if there is dressing up, its not of death.
4.) Trick or Treat? - kids do this. For some reason it's taboo for people too old to do... why is that? Here's why... the kids dressing up is a way they mimic the spirits of kids that had passed away and would go door to door begging for money, food, donations (alms).
People would leave treats at their doorstep to appease the spirits so that they spirits didnt haunt or play a trick on them. The treats used to be apples, bread, fruit. If there wasn't any "alms" for the spirits they would play a cruel trick on the people in those home.
5.) Jack-o-lanterns- ever thought... why is it called a jack-o-lantern and not a pumpkin lantern or pumpkin light.... why Jack? Because as the story goes, a sneaky swindler named Jack (probably the same one who the song "Jack be nimble Jack be quick" was made for) tricked the
devil. The devil came to collect his soul, Jack said... you can have it if you can get me this fruit from this tree... the devil climbed the tree, Jack carved a cross on the trunk of the tree trapping the devil. The devil somehow cut off Jacks head and chased Jack. It's dark.
& Jack is missing his head so what do you usually carve into pumpkins? A face. What do we place into pumpkins? A light. We are unknowingly participants in the game with Jack and the devil. Here Jack! I left a head for you so you & I put a candle in it so you can see in the dark.
If anyone has any other things im super interested to learn. I might have forgotten something. Feel free to fact check all you want.
