Ludovico playing, cold AF beer to hand.

Sweetpea loves #Halloween and I'm not arsed.

But the concept interests me, so here's a look at it's origins.

[A thread]
So we're talking, like, 2000 years ago when Ireland, UK, and Northern France celebrated New Year on Nov 1. This was the transition between summer and winter - a time of year they tied to people biting the dust en masse.
It originated with an ancient Celtic festival #Samhain which fell on 1 Nov each year. On the eve before this, 31 Oct - All Hallows Eve, peeps set fire to a bunch of wood and wore scary shit (hides and animal heads(?!) to scare off spirits of the dead. 'Cause, costume bants.
So we're talking, like, 2000 years ago. These 'ghosts' were believed to pop back to the world of the living to wreck crops and have a conflab with Druid and Celtic priests regarding the near future. So the priests became morale during long freezing-ass winters. Haribo back then?
People started gathering around huge sacred hearth fires (humans always love a good fire right?). They'd chew the fat and spin shit dits about the prophetic gen they'd received from their deity-loving muckers.
Then the Roman Empire came along (for conquering bants) and injected their tweaks (standard blending of 'no, this is our religion' sketch). Bobbing the apple was probably linked to their #Pomona who was believed to be the goddess of fruit and trees.
Halloween fit nicely with the Roman's commemorating passing of their dead, which was late October too. Decent. If it's not broke don't fix it.
So it's all a bit pagan-esque and was originally about the dreaded dark half of the year and the barrier between life and death being temporarily blurry, where peeps would 'av a rite good chinwag with dwellers from the Otherworld.
Nowadays we dress up as zombie sluts and get all the kids to ask for sweets in a socially distanced manner.

What will it look like in another thousand years? Will the robots let us dress up and celebrate (?) Halloween?
