I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. If people are forced to choose between work or starving, they will work regardless of lockdown. Suspend the Hostile Environment or migrants will not be able to protect themselves or their families. It’s not a joke.
HE 1: NHS charging - deters people from accessing vital medical care or speaking to doctors. Bad for track and trace, bad for people who might die at home because they think they’ll be torn from their friends and family.
HE 2: No Recourse to Public Funds. No universal credit. No housing benefit. No child benefit. No PIP. what happens if they lose their jobs? What happens if they’re on minimum wage and need to feed their kids?
HE 3: Illegal Working conditions. Pushes people into exploitative employment because they cannot report their employers without risk of deportation. No public funds access. Again, forces people into terrible choices.
HE 4: data sharing with police. Domestic violence increases rapidly during lockdown. Victims of crime likely to be arrested themselves and handed over to immigration enforcement if they report. Benefits abusers and exploiters only.
