Pulp fiction and the second chance in life (thread)
Life always gives you a second chance. It is upon you if you take the chance or let It go. Pulp fiction is all about the second chance.
Vincent and Jules are two gangsters who work for marsellus Wallace. They collect money from people on Wallace's behalf. They are ruthless smooth talking gangsters.
On one such trip to an apartment to collect the money, they survive a shootout. 6 shots are fired but none of them hits them. Jules calls it a divine intervention but Vincent calls it a mere coincidence.
Jules takes this as a second chance, but Vincent does not. Jules decides to leave the underworld , Vincent does not. Vincent even goes on a date with Wallace's wife even after being warned many times.
That dinner date goes horribly wrong when mia Wallace overdoses heroine and nearly dies, until an adrenaline injection is stabbed right into her heart. Again, life gives mia another chance.
Butch, a boxer, is asked by Wallace to take a dive in the boxing match but instead he kills the opponent in the ring and flees. But as fate had it he meets Marcellus Wallace on the street.
Butch drives the car over Wallace and his car hits another car. Both Wallace and butch are injured. But Wallace wants to kill butch. While running away from him, butch enters a pawn shop. both have a fight there.
The shop owner traps both of them in the basement and calls his police officer friend. His friend choses wallace and butch somehow manages to escape but wallace is getting raped by the police officer.
Now again butch is given a chance. He has a choice. To flee away from the shop or go and save Wallace. He choses the latter and saves Wallace making the right choice.
Pumpkin and honey bunny, two petty thieves decide to rob a cafe. At the same cafe , Jules and Vincent arrive to have breakfast. Jules has a newly found perspective about crime life and he tries to give then some in his own style. Pumpkin and honey too, get another chance.
Pulp fiction is amazing. Tarantino is too good a filmmaker to make a boring film. He creates tension just through rhythmic dialogues. Be stretches and stretches the suspense like a rubber band, but in tarantino's case the rubber band pushes it's limits and goes even further.
Roger avary and Quentin tarantino have written a non linear screenplay. It's like they wrote five chapters in 5 pages and then jumbled them up but in an engaging way. Playing with the audience's minds and grabbing their attention.
The great critic Roger Ebert said about pulp fiction: " Quentin Tarantino is the Jerry Lee Lewis of cinema, a pounding performer who doesn't care if he tears up the piano, as long as everybody is rocking". I see no lies there.
Pulp fiction on surface level is an entertaining crime-gone-wrong neo noir gangster film , but underneath their are layers and back stories that will give you a new surprise on every watching. All hail Tarantino🙌
