So the new lockdown - what will it look like legally?
What we know is:
- There will be new regulations which will be debated on and voted on by Parliament on Wednesday
- We are going back to the "stay at home" rules
- Many more businesses will be closed

This isn't like the first lockdown - because the government has developed a legal model/models over 7 months for implementing which is now quite familiar.
Seems almost certain the regulations will revert to a version of the ones we had in place from 26 March to early July...

... in other words you must leave your house without a reasonable excuse, and the reasonable excuses are listed in the regulations (though they have previously been non-exhaustive)
This is from the previous regulations but I expect it will be similar https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/pdfs/uksi_20200350_en.pdf

The key question is which "reasonable excuses" will be listed. Previously this has been a closely guarded secret until they are released - huge ramifications for people's everyday lives.
Although Parliament will have a vote, it won't have an opportunity to amend - so it's thin gruel from a democratic perspective. Better than what happened until a month ago - Parliament didn't see before they came into force - but still ripe for mistakes and skewed priorities.
There were a few important clues in what the PM said about the shape of the exceptions:
- Support bubbles will remain, hugely important for many. They are called "linked households" in the regulations, basically a '1 adult' (+ however many children) household can link with...

... one other household to effectively become a single household.
- Will linked childcare households remain in place? I would be surprised if not, they have become a regular part of all the strictest lockdowns since July.

Another key question which I haven't seen answered yet is what will happen for gatherings outside the home? I doubt it will be the 'rule of 6', if it goes back to pre-July then it will be no gatherings outside of home with members of other households. Very strict

No mention in @peston's thread about the rules for outside the home...
If this is right then that is where the original lockdown rules ended up in, I think, May - amended to allow people to meet up with 1 person not from their household. Very strict still https://twitter.com/charliechar/status/1322626253019586561?s=20
