This is a desperate plea to the KMC and GoS to completely pivot to policies to make Karachi green. I can’t survive like this. I need this city to be saved. I can’t think of living anywhere else. We see the rest of the world doing it. You have the money and power. Please
I have paid taxes (cut from my salary) since I started working. My neighbourhood has garbage dumps, black wires from cables, rutted roads. Parks are still not easily accessible. Blockaded streets. Even a walk is just a reminder of neglect every step. So incredible sad each day
What is a govt for if not for me? Each person in this city. When so many experts guide on city mgmt why is it so hard to resist big business, big builders? When will govt be about the People?
Parks can’t have sports grounds bc they are 2 separate depts. So there are no spaces for kids to play, kick a ball around. Just walking tracks in Shalimar-type gardens. No skater rinks. Soccer fields.
I want to have spaces where I can meet people, public transit so we all rub shoulders. I want to walk to work and take a bus. I’ve stopped meeting interesting people. My life has shrunk to the newsroom. I believe a lot of young people feel the same way
I’ve stopped writing because every story has the same theme. Every investigation the same story of bad decision-making and corruption. I don’t think I’ll write on Karachi any more.
