THREAD: As a formerly homeless person, I wanna say something as we enter the annual season of “giving” and give tips on how to give.
Many of you this time of year will donate things you would NEVER donate to another self-respecting, dignified person. To anyone you cared for.

I am a FREQUENT volunteer at many types of charities and have been all my life.
So many of you donate items like
- expired food
- half eaten food
- PET food (not intended for pets they are putting in the containers for humans and we throwing it out)
- etc
Please burn in hell.

ADDITIONALLY, and this is VERY important because it’s a lesser known fact:
STOP DONATING BABY FOOD unless it specifically states you can and gives parameters as to how.
Baby food is almost ALWAYS thrown out at foodbanks bc epidemiologists CANNOT do traceback studies on it.

Trackbacks are done when a product is deemed unsafe or harmful. So if an infant dies from a brand of baby food & that shit is at the foodbank, there is NO way to “traceback” epidemiologically where it came from or it’s possible source of contamination (which may not be the manu)
To those of you who donate used underwear and bras to the foodbank (many foodbanks DO have consignments for clothing donations and sell MUCH cheaper than GW) or Goodwill?
Your parents failed raising you. This is not a judgment. This is a fact.

A really lesser known fact but one I am personally taking advantage of later on today and typically do at least once a year is that you can donate dingy or ripped sheets/bed linens to local animal shelters! They use them to line the cages to keep them warm! Or Vet clinics too!
You also DO NOT have to donate thru an organization. I’ve literally walked up to the homeless encampment by my alma mater in NOLA and just given homeless women money and then drove off.
Spare me the safety lecture. I have a concealed carry license.

My point is this:
Take a moment and THINK this holiday season: am I giving this because I wanna feel good about myself or because someone could TRULY use this? Would I give this to someone I cared for? Someone I RESPECTED as a human being?
Otherwise it’s meaningless.

And volunteers DEFINITELY throwing that shit out.
