My sister-in-law works on a COVID Ward. They have 96 patients (in September they’d discharged every single one and went back to being a “normal” Ward). Currently over 120 nurses off work due to COVID/self isolation. That’s one hospital. https://twitter.com/steven_swinford/status/1322294800704557056
Sister, niece, their entire household has COVID currently. No symptoms at all. They’ve stuck to the rules. They’ve caught it from work colleagues, not through going out boozing (sister doesn’t drink). Every person I know with it has caught it through work or their kids’ school.
Not convinced stopping people going for Sunday lunch or to John Lewis is going to save the NHS from the challenge it’s facing when schools are supposedly going to be exempt from the “stay at home” order. There are 12 million kids in England alone...and how are we funding it?
The Gov’t put in place a very good support package in the summer. People need to know sooner rather than later what additional support will now be put into place. And they need to know from the Gov’t. Not from Twitter at 9pm on a Friday night.
Yes, the NHS is on it’s knees. It isn’t alone. It does need to be protected, absolutely. At the expense of everyone else? No. The two things are not mutually exclusive. Protect both. Suicide, depression, bankruptcy, homelessness, family breakdown, ongoing abuse. All factors, too.
