Gotta say, the standard of UK public discourse around nuclear, renewables and how to power the nation under net zero is pretty atrocious.

So many tropes. So much bullshit.

I'd do a thread with charts but it's a Saturday so just a few thoughts:
Nuclear is more expensive than renewables. Even including system costs. Bite me.

We will need some expensive things to get to net zero and nuclear could be one of those.

We will need a lot of zero carbon electricity and it might be hard to build enough wind quickly enough.
Nuclear won't help fill the gaps when it isn't windy. We need something else for that (gas CCS; hydrogen; TBC).

Obviously nuclear will be running whether it's windy or not - because EDF wants to make money, not piss it up a wall.
Noone says we can do wind and solar alone. (Even 100% renewable pathways include, say, hydrogen).

Anything else?
