/ Some more thoughts on @graphprotocol after building my first subgraph (will share this one later! It's still indexing).

tl;dr - Easy open access to blockchain data is imperative to a decentralized/web3 future.
/ I wish I found @graphprotocol earlier. It would've saved me a lot of time, but there's a bright future ahead. Blockchains like Ethereum are open & permissionless. In theory, anyone can read the exact same data anyone else can. It's not in a silo or hidden, but...
/ It's not that easy for any person to go exploring themselves. Having built a project or two on Ethereum, even as an experienced web dev, this stuff takes a lot of time, especially trying to understand the nature of how blockchains work, retrieve & store data.
/ What further complicates blockchains is that you are chasing an ever changing dataset that you don't control, with unique properties too. It's really hard & resource intensive to make sure the data you collect is correct & matches the blockchain.
/ The Graph solved this data access issue for devs, but now, is embarking on making their whole infrastructure decentralized too. They're basically saying, this is too important for one company to own. Time will tell how well it works in practice, but I'm excited.
/ With new tech/ideas, I often project into future: "What if this works?". The closest comparison I can think of is, what if Google opened up their whole graph? Ethereum could one day become a "new" Internet, but if it's not accessible, what's the point of open systems then?
/ Maybe I'm just daydreaming at the moment & this is all hyperbole. I really do think though if The Graph continues on their mission, easy accessible blockchain data could accelerate a lot of great change.
/ In any case, I really like the idea that for example I can go to the @UniswapProtocol subgraph, which is a decentralized exchange, & I can easily request my own data + explore all their data. What's their data is now everyone's data & it's accessible! It's pretty mind blowing
/ What's also cool, with their new protocol (perhaps a tweet thread for the future), one could fathom that someone who helps build & maintain these accessible data rails, could actually make a living from it, without actually being a part of the company/foundation.
/ Summary: I'm excited to keep building/exploring the @graphprotocol. They've already made my life easier as a dev. Which is a big win. It's going to an interesting year ahead.
