The argument that most people r not aware of a text that proposes inhuman practices [and hence don't slam the text and do not point to the crap inside] misses how philosophy percolates to all those [through language,practices,beliefs and mores] who may not be aware of such texts.

One of the problems with "philosophy" has been its appropriation as some tool for elitist intellectual auto-eroticism that is beyond the grasp of ordinary mortals. I can not think of a more repugnant hubris by those who hold this view [humanities intellectuals].

In reality, #philosophy underlies all knowledge and fields/aspects of life & at a fundamental level it's one of the simplest things to grasp. But the self-proclaimed intellectuals deliberately obfuscate & run circles around people so as to keep philosophy out of reach of the many

Much of the rot one sees all around at all levels [race/gender/nationalism/caste/social order etc] stems directly from the philosophical tenets that are dominant at a point in time. Those are percolated far and wide. Every malaise can be traced to its philosophical foundations.

W/o getting into those fancy terms that intellectuals use, #Philosophy is about:
1. What exists? What is its nature?
2. How can we find out?
3. How do we chose? What code of values drive actions/choices?
4. What is aesthetics and beauty?
5. What are the foundations for rights?

The corresponding terms used in rarefied circles are:
1. Metaphysics and Ontology
2. Epistemology, Logic
3. Ethics & Morals
4. Aesthetics & Pathos - including human beauty/goodness
5. Politics, Order and individual rights, laws

Take an eg., of an individual who:
1. Is never sure of what exists & what doesn't.
2.Has no way of finding out anything abt anything.
[Just 2 out of 5 dimensions]

You can possibly draw up an image/profile of such an individual and then infer the answer to remaining 3 dimensions.

In rarefied circles the terms: post-modernism, relativism etc. Or post-truthism. Or revisionism.

Can you actually imagine the horrors that can and do follow based on a particular way of viewing things along just 2 of the 5 dimensions I mentioned above! Think about it.

"Metaphysics" [see above] is abt first principles on what exists, its nature, origin etc & includes Ontology [What exists].
