Why is the role open?

As a backfill. Not for someone who left the company, but for someone who moved into another role at the company (promoting from within).

This signals as an attractive job as it has proven to lead to more opportunities.

Bonus: "She".
Setting expectations on timing.

If you don't have a set timeframe, that is ok. If you do, candidates will appreciate the transparency.

It might also lead to fewer follow-up questions and pings.
Not only do they encouraging applications from marginalized groups, they acknowledge that these groups have been given fewer opportunities to gain experience.

They commit to investing their time and effort in their people, helping them to grow into their roles.
Not surprisingly, marginalized groups with less opportunities and less experience also earn less.

Their work computers may be their only computers.

Providing equipment removes another barrier of entry in one's consideration of submitting an application.
The requirements are limited to the skills and knowledge one would need to perform the job.

You won't find minimum requirements for school, experience, games shipped, etc. that are typically used to discourage applications (which have an outsized effect on marginalized groups).
More accessibility and encouragement:

"The following skills and experience would be beneficial, but are not required."

"If you don’t tick off all the boxes above, we highly encourage you to apply."
A list of valuable benefits that signal Clever Endeavour is a studio that considers and cares about the well-being of their people.
Open, transparent, and competitive salary in the job description!

Marginalized groups negotiate less often than white males, and thus, get paid less. Transparency in compensation leads to greater consistency, which helps to reduce the gender and race pay gaps.
They continue to consider the candidate in setting expectations for the application timeline and process.

And they commit to compensating the candidate for time spent on the sample project/exercise.
Worried about being recognized or credited? Worry not as they include prior employees and contractors on their About Us page.
Well done @ClevEndeavGames. 👏👏👏
