When you think of oysters,
do you picture them as tiny heroes of the ocean?
Well... maybe you should and THIS IS WHY.
(1/4)

Oysters and other filter feeders suck in gunk
and toxins
from the ocean and pump out clean water. This clears up the water SO much that it lets the underwater plants
photosynthesize (yum... oxygen!) (2/4)

Oyster shells also pile up on the ocean floor creating a
reef-like structure for seaweed to hold onto and fish
to hide in. But an increase in CO2
being absorbed into the ocean is hurting the oysters' ability to build sturdy shells by causing acidification. (3/4)

Oyster whisperer
@Tessa_M_Hill and
@hogislandoyster are looking into what acidification means for both farmed and wild oysters... and what they may be able to do to reduce the impact.
