We fail, as a society, to recognize the trauma and mental illness these people suffer. We don’t recognize that as a medical condition. We recognize it instead, falsely, as a moral failing.

This creates a false 'We versus Them' dichotomy, where the We are morally strong and superior vs the Them who are morally weak and inferior. When this becomes infused in people's perceptions as 'reality' it becomes easier to treat the Them as less

valued citizens; to the point where they are treated more harshly by society and it's institutions i.e. government, police, healthcare and judiciary. We need to reset that false dichotomy and treat them as we would care for a family member with

a mental health problem and/or a homelessness problem. We have to start viewing each other as family. If we don't, we create fertile ground for discrimination. This is One Planet, we are all One Family. Let's treat each other in kind.
