This year has been a big one for the VC community, and it’s not even over yet:

*Growth in popularity of @joinRepublic
*New accredited investor definition
*Advent of rolling funds
* @MacConwell's new 506(c) traditional fund

We are entering a new period of “investments in public”
"Building in public” is all about transparency. In contrast, "investments in public” is all about access.

Small check investors get access to knowledge about investment opportunities.

Startups and VCs get access to a much smaller but louder source of capital.
Over the next decade, these trends will intensify. We may see:

*The rise of micro LP-only funds & vehicles
*Startups increasingly competing for crowdsourced capital
*Public due diligence discourse - eg, using Twitter, CH to discuss whether to invest in a startup publicly raising
Investments in public will create pressure on pre-seed / seed stage VCs to have a defined value add along with their $$$.

It will also create pressure on some types of traditional LPs to bring something unique to the table to get preferential access to emerging managers
On the operating side, developing content & thought leadership early will become more important drivers of raising $$$. In some ways, it won’t matter what industry you’re in – if you’re competing for capital in public, you’ll have to capture the hearts and minds of online users
What other developments do you see or want to see this decade in VC/investing? I’d love to hear other viewpoints
