A NASA study showed that between 2000 and 2017, the surface of forests on Earth has increased by 5%, which is huge, but sadly that's not only good news, here's why.
1/7
It doesn't change the fact that the biodiversity is lost where deforestation happens, and it will take thousands of years to recover it all.
2/7
It's been showed that some of these new forests are located in places which were covered by ice 40 years ago, which is another proof that global warming is moving fast. Also means that the tropical lands are expanding, which is slowly killing biodiversity.
3/7
If the Earth is covered by more vegetation, it's partly because of the rise of carbon dioxyde concentration in the atmosphere : CO2 and water are vegetation's ingredients for photosynthesis, so with an increase in CO2, it can grow more.
4/7
And here comes some good news : it also means that the Earth is fighting the rise in CO2 in the atmosphere, because some of those forests are natural.
5/7
Also useless fact : the Amazon rainforest is not the Earth's lungs. It provides approximately the oxygen needed by the biodiversity it contains. Still very important considering its biodiversity !
6/7
All in all : if somebody tells you that we'll be fine and we shouldn't worry about climate change, they're full of shit.
We all need to do our part, now, before it's too late. Delete all your useless emails and spams, eat less meat, unplug all the chargers you don't use.
