Oh so Woke King is stealing my tweets now, huh? đŸ˜€ jkjk
But fr there’s a lot of confusion about what this means so I figure I might as well clarify some things

What is a full time organizer? What does it mean to embrace poverty? What is actually being called for, here? https://twitter.com/PurelyPurgatory/status/1319584206792568832
First off, what isn’t being called for is for anyone and everyone who reads it to peruse this individualistically. A full timer needs support, organization, and collective. So logically, of course not *everyone* can become one. The full timer is a role for the most dedicated.
Also, the call isn’t for people to avoid the workplace struggle. This is another essential role, but full timers from outside the workplace are really helpful to have. The salt is typically likely to lose their job, so this also involves dedication and sacrifice.
Embrace poverty is better put as “simple living and arduous struggle”, living only on what one needs and dedicating as much as one can to the struggle. So embrace poverty doesn’t necessarily imply a dollar number. The full timer often doesn’t rely on money, but on the masses.
This means they often live couch to couch, in a never-used trailer, a spare room, the organization’s office, etc. they get fed from the collective meals of meetings & education sessions, the food the vendors they help organize we’re going to throw away, and so on.
Their healthcare will often be the nurse who supports the work they do. The money they do need is sometimes provided by the organization, but is often through collecting cans, doing services, etc. in essence: organizing, simple living, and struggle, is their livelihood.
In the first world there are advantages and disadvantages compared to the full time activists I learn from in the PH. Disadvantage is largely cultural, the masses should see the full timer as their own, but individualism runs deep here, hospitality isn’t always as valued.
But an advantage is we have things like EBT, sometimes free healthcare, welfare, etc. and often better access to money to support full timers.
Someone compared it to grifting, there’s no grift, there’s no financial manipulation or selling, the masses support you if you earn their support. And you earn their support through unrelenting dedication to their struggle.
What about high income people? Depends, really. Sometimes that high income person is a *really* skilled organizer and they would be a better full timer than financial supporter. But if not, again, the point is that we should be part of something bigger.
But actually, people are typically more willing to be supporters with jobs while still living lives that somewhat fit in bourgeois society, rather than take on the sacrifice of being full time. So this often isn’t the issue.
So what makes it different from just being broke? Conscious effort to embrace the lifestyle in service of the masses and their struggle, and the organized programming and collectivization of it. It is sacrifice, but not an individual one, a full timer is part of something bigger.
So yeah, not *everyone* can live like this, but the essence is true for all revolutionaries. Organization. Dedication. Simple living and arduous struggle.
