Eimear's novel in progress had been inspired by her own family history. I was immediately drawn into the story, following the central character Veronica as she travelled from peeling potatoes on her family farm to Dublin and into danger....

From trying to do the right thing for her family and country, to falling in love with an enemy soldier, here was a character whose dramatic story I knew readers would want to follow.

When a new author starts work with an agent there's always work to do on the manuscript and @eimearlawlor58 and I, also assisted by agency colleague @RobbieGuillory, embarked on edits.
@eimearlawlor58 didn't run away when I suggested some quite big changes.

Back in Dublin, Eimear and I met for tea and cake at one of the hotels featured in the novel. I just knew this story was going to come to life and be published.
Once we were ready to submit to publishers, the nail biting starts -- for the agent too!

Eimear received several offers to choose from.
The agent's role is to evaluate the offers and explain the jargon.
Two offers stood above the others. Eimear was able to meet the editors to find out more about plans before making her decision.

A debut novel is both the end of one journey and the start of a new one.
I am incredibly proud of this heartfelt novel and @eimearlawlor58 hard work and dedication. And I can't wait to see readers around the world enjoying this story.
