Social media does give everyone a platform, but you have to remember that the medical community is smaller than you think.

I respect trainees who voice their opinions. I also worry about those who actively police the practicing physicians on Twitter.
Please, before the pile-on... understand that it’s your reputation not mine. This comes from a place of good faith and honest concern.

Physicians you wouldn’t expect, those who do not use Twitter, are aware of the online activity that occurs here. Word travels quickly.
Know that everyone has a different definition for professionalism. It exists beyond medicine. Because the public has a high amount of trust in medical professionals, you are held to a different standard.
Is it fair? No.
Is it outdated? Yes.

The old guard is still in your profession. They still call the shots.
