Kim Taeseong, the music director of Break the Silence (and many other famous films/documentaries), was on a radio show to talk about his experience working on the documentary. A thread of all his mentions about the documentary and @BTS_twt:
Q: Please talk about a little about Break The Silence
KTS: @BTS_twt had done a few documentaries in the past but this was the first time #BTS’ side asked me to do the music. They asked me to work a little more on the storytelling aspect. So I arranged some of their music and +
KTS: produce some of their music into a more storytelling narrative. And it finally came out in theaters.
Q: Were there any fun or special stories while working on this?
KTS: I had worked on GD’s documentary in the past and whenever I work on an artist’s documentary, I always +
KTS: end up feeling self-doubt. It’s not that the music director is a genius, but I kept thinking that it’s the artists that are geniuses and are amazing. When I was watching them, I felt self-doubt and wondered why am I so lazy
👨🏻‍🦳 What?! Genius music director Kim Taeseong +
👨🏻‍🦳 feeling self-doubt after listening to BTS’ music?!
KTS: Tbh I was really lucky that I was able to get to this position, but those people (BTS) are really amazing geniuses.
KTS: So I worked on about 7-8 songs [on Break the Silence]. My main job was to rearrange songs so tbh the difficulty level of the work wasn’t that high.
👨🏻 It felt fresh while watching the documentary
KTS: The ending song was actually a different song but bc we wanted to give +
KTS: comfort during this time of covid, we changed the song and rearranged it.
Q: Have you met @BTS_twt in person? Is V handsome?
KTS: I haven’t met them in person; I just spoke to the documentary director and producers. It’s very difficult to meet these people [BTS].
👨🏻‍🦳 yes I heard that
KTS: Even getting an autograph, I had asked for one, is really hard!
KTS: To get an autograph, you need to get permission from the company
👨🏻‍🦳 even you, director-nim?!
KTS: yes! They said they have to do it, and the albums even come with the names, so people won’t be able to sell it. It’s very hard.
Q: “When the proposal from @BTS_twt’s side came, what did you honestly think?” You know how #BTS’ music has quality and depth, did that make you think more?
KTS: With BTS, putting aside the face that they have great music, I really like their great attitudes. They have this +
KTS: certain kind of energy, maybe I should call it a positive energy? But when I’m watching them, it’s quite healing when having a hard time. And I’d get comforted while working on the documentary. As I said earlier, they’d make me ask myself why I don’t work as hard as they do+
👨🏻‍🦳 What do you mean, you work so hard!
KTS: No, I’m really lazy.
👨🏻 This is one of the charms of this documentary. The previous ones focused more on the performance aspects but this one is more about BTS as people behind the stage. Fans will be able to see each member in their +
👨🏻 daily lives not just their onstage personas.
Q: While working on the documentary, you must’ve heard a lot of @BTS_twt’s music, what do you think is the secret to their success?
KTS: As I said earlier, I think it’s their attitudes, and that encompasses everything. +
KTS: Bc of their attitudes, they get recognized and respected by their ARMY. The two way communication they have is also bc of the way they act/behave. They are people I can learn a lot from
👨🏻‍🦳 They grew with their ARMY from the beginning while doing things the ARMY wanted and +
👨🏻‍🦳 communicating with their ARMY, right?
KTS: Yes, and I think that’s amazing.
