Paying artists is a choice.

When streamers & DJs are hit by music copyright takedowns, it’s because those platforms haven't secured the right licenses and aren’t paying the artists that are being played.

This is not the fault of musicians or labels. It’s down to the platforms.
Many of these platforms are owned by some of the biggest businesses in the world.

Twitch is owned by Amazon, a business with the largest revenue of any Internet company in the world.

Twitch, Facebook and Instagram have all seen waves of DMCA takedowns for unlicensed copyright.
Often they encourage DJs & artists to use their platforms without having the right licenses. All the while hiding in the small print of their T&Cs that you shouldn’t use copyrighted music.

These companies profit from music content but they don't work in the interest of creators.
If you host or livestream music on unlicensed platforms, there’s no security. You're at risk of muting, takedowns, interruptions & strikes.

If any of your content does stay up on these platforms - it’s b/c the artists & rights-holders you play aren't reported & aren't being paid
Unlicensed platforms pit creators against each other so that a DJ’s success comes at the expense of the artists they play, and respecting artists' rights shuts down DJs’ creativity.

The only way forward is to build a sustainable ecosystem where everyone is paid their fair share.
For over 10 years, with a fraction of the resources of these larger corporations - we’ve invested time & money into getting the right licenses to build this ecosystem.

All music we detect is properly reported for royalties, giving DJs creative freedom while artists are paid.
Mixcloud is the only platform that pays all rights-holders (artists, labels, songwriters, publishers) & pays DJs.

Whether it’s #MixcloudLive or our #MixcloudSelect monetization program, we work to ensure that everyone involved in creating the music we love is paid for their work
If you love music and care about the future of this ecosystem, then it’s up to all of us to choose a streaming platform that does the right thing.

We’re built for creators.
